This unit delves into the gender ideologies of the past and the present. This journal entry assignment will have you respond to a number of the videos that were included in this module.
Answer ALL of the following in this journal entry:
1) In Activity #2, you were to view the PBS video, “Washington’s Gender Gap.” Discuss the dominant gender ideologies that you see at play in Washington (as presented in the video). What do you see as possible ways for those gender ideologies to be dismantled, challenged, and changed for the better? Explain.
2) In Activity #3, you were to view the PBS video, “Why Tech Companies Struggle With Gender Equality.” Discuss the dominant gender ideologies that you see at play in the tech companies (and in Silicon Valley) (as presented in the video). What do you see as possible ways for those gender ideologies to be dismantled, challenged, and changed for the better? Explain.
3) In Activity #4, you were to view the PBS video, “Code Academy.” To what extent do you think that these code academies will change the gender ideologies and gender roles for women and men in the future (in terms of technology, jobs, income, and perceptions of societal contribution potential)? Explain.
